TEHACHAPI UNIT

Sierra Crest Outfitters Guides and Outfits the Tehachapi zone. 2023 was the first year tags were offered. The tag quota for 2025 is 10 bull and 10 antlerless. Trophy opportunity is 350 plus but there are several 400 inch class bulls in the range with a handful being on our ranches each year. With limited access to public land, the majority of the elk will be on private lands. SCO has over 20,000 acres combined of private ranches in the area with all having trophy potential on them. Lodging is available that will include warm meals and a place to rest. Antlerless hunts are available on our ranches.

The SCO team have lived in the Tehachapi range their entire lives and know it more then anyone else in the business. Since before the range became a unit, they have patterned and picked up world class sheds each year. Some of the biggest bulls in the west have been on this range and SCO has access to the best ranches that give you the best opportunity for a world class Bulls. Limited spots will be available for the 2025 season so don’t hesitate to give us a call. Please feel free to call for more information about the zone.

JOSH SCHULGEN (GUIDE)

Josh Schulgen, with his clients incredible bull for the 2023 season. Hunter (who wanted to remain anonymous) hunted two days before deciding on this heavy bull. With over 65 inches of mass and great length, the bull gross 405. Great scouting efforts from the SCO crew was a big factor on harvesting this bull.

AARON AMATOR

Aaron with his giant non-typical bull from the 2023 season. Aaron watched this bull for a couple days and could not resist the amount of character he had. With length, extras, and mass he checked all the boxes. On the second day of the season he snuck into 35 yards and made a well placed shot to earn him his biggest bull to date grossing 385.

DAVE HALBROOK

When Dave called and said he wanted a hunt he could remember, I assured him that’s what he would get and that is what he got! Dave, his brother Dan, and his son Hunter, made several trips out to help scout. On the first trip out it just so happened this bull hit the camera and when I saw Dave’s eyes light up, that’s when I knew this was his bull. Opening day finally arrived and after an intense stalk down a steep drainage, Dave made a well placed shot to harvest his biggest bull to date that grossed 375. Congrats again Dave!

JUSTIN BARNES

Here is Justin with one of the most elusive bulls in the range. He gave us the slip the year before when he was a clean 6x6 grossing 400 inches. Justin wasn’t sure on the first year the season was open and waited to see how it turned out. After a good first year we spoke again and I showed him “Hook” and he said I want him. When he drew we knew we had a lot of work ahead of us to locate Hook. Like clockwork he showed up but disappeared just before the season. It wouldn't be till a week when we would be finally able to put our hands on this 425 giant! Justin will be featured in Epic Outdoors later this year so if you are interested in the whole story, sign up so you can read one great story!
